Harvard Review publishes short fiction, poetry, essays, drama, and book reviews. Writers at all stages of their careers are invited to submit, however, we can only publish a very small fraction of the  material we receive. Please submit no more than one submission in a given reading period; multiple submissions will be returned unread. 

Simultaneous submissions are permitted. Please notify us immediately if the work has been accepted elsewhere via your Submittable account.

Announcing the 2025 Harvard Review Chapbook Prize for a work of nonfiction of 15,000 to 30,000 words. 

The winner will receive publication of their work in a limited-edition chapbook distributed by Harvard University Press and an invitation to read at Harvard University in the fall of 2025. 

Submissions may be made through Submittable from October 15 through December 15, 2024. Submissions must be between 15,000 and 30,000 words. Prose manuscripts should be double-spaced, 12 pt font, paginated. Please DO NOT include any personal information (name, mailing address, email) on the submitted materials. Paper submissions will not be accepted. Only one submission per person. Entries must be previously unpublished. 

Past and current affiliates of Harvard Review, as well as writers with a personal, student-teacher, or mentoring relationship with the Harvard Review editorial staff or contest judge are ineligible. Harvard Review complies with the Community of Literary Magazines and Presses (CLMP) contest code of ethics
